I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Being a bigger company they have the financial resources to offer decent training. They have an exciting group of projects to work on and movement within the programs is possible for the right skill sets.

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of political games and management make decisions behind closed doors which doesn't instill confidence in teams. Team Leaders and Senior staff often don't have the support they need to manage both people and work. HR is based in US which means any negotiations take longer than they should.

    Advice to Management

While there is a great deal of communication about the programs, much of it is reactive and the thinking behind strategic directions is secretive. Trust would go a long way to building loyalty.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time

    Pros

Full time job, medium job security, Defence related unlikely to be axed.

    Cons

Very low Base pay with long hours and constant shift work. Salary seems good at first but is really quite low at about $24/Hr or less. Pay rises are lower than CPI most years. Salary of about $90000 seems ok but is in actual fact well earned by mandatory and considerable overtime and long 12 Hr shifts. Highly skilled and experienced Emplyees are earning little more than minimum Award wages for longer hours worked plus National Employment Standard (NES) mandatory allowances.

    Advice to Management

Need to look after existing and new employees better. Cease cutting staff numbers and real wages. Stop increasing hours employees have to work, especially unpaid hours work.

    Pros

Good company to work for and the job tasks are interesting with the support of talented individuals. Strategic direction is solid with the backing of the US parent company.

    Cons

Quality processes can be lacking in some areas and need to followed by many employees. Due to rapid growth a new work site is seriously in order. Middle and uppermangement tend to make decisions behind closed doors and decisions are usually reactive.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to listen to your engineers. They want to help if you support them. You career incentives need are good looking at because they dont exist, leaving a fairly unmotivated employees.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally stable, seen many people work 30 plus years here. Being govt contractor, lots of rules in place to protect employee, like limits to uncompensated OT for individual contributors. This can be a pro or con I suppose. Lots of good resources throughout company to help you network and grow, but you have to take initiative to seek and follow.

    Cons

If working for SSC, software technologies used may seem out dated. Change process is slow and the culture seems to reflect. Its good for those seeking more stable, not so fast paced job. Can be boring for those energetic and passionate types trying to stay at cutting edge. This was for Space only, other parts of company are bit more in tune with latest software trends

    Advice to Management

Seems management gets most credits for project success. Management also seem to retain more power over major project decisions, doesn't really empower the grunt engineer to lead or take ownership.

I worked at Lockheed Martin (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In most areas, Lockheed Martin was a good company to work at.

    Cons

The lower management was not always astute.

    Advice to Management

Have a good knowledge of the company union agreement.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for and excellent benefits. Also, the management is really easy to work for.

    Cons

The only down side is that new employees are not offered retirement. They still offer 401K. Also, it can be difficult to work thru all the different levels of management due to the fact of four different companies work side by side.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time

    Pros

Great company with good benefits. I worked on a military installation as a instructor and course coordinator. Corporate Leadership was engaged in our program and supported its employees. My program manager was one of the best leaders / bosses I've ever worked for.

    Cons

LM is a very large corporation engaged in serving the defense industry. At time the human resources personnel seemed out of touch with those on the ground and pushed out redundant HR corporate training materials by the boat load. These programs often took employees away from the important work LM payed us to perform.

    Advice to Management

Scale back the HR required continuing education programs! Look for innovative ways to bring training courses to federal, state, and local government agencies. The program we ran was contracted to the Army, when the contract ended no one looked for opportunities to export the program to other agencies.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good working environment, interesting projects, lots of opportunity for growth, competitive pay and benefits. Highly ethical company that strives to deliver excellence to customers as well as employees.

    Cons

Failure to forecast market changes resulted in periodic, large-scale layoffs. Employees supporting direct contracts were typically placed, but indirect staff were generally at risk.

    Advice to Management

Address how resource needs are forecasted to avoid large scale cutbacks.

    Pros

This is a large company with very interesting work and treats LDP employees especially well. High compension and decent benefits

    Cons

Not a lot of advancement opportunities for senior employees, no bonus structure and constant cutting leading to layoffs.
