Flexible, but not much career growth

      Pros

Flexible work, can WFH since starting in COVID, and no intention to push us to go back to work from CEO level. Company focused on sustainable pace of working, so tries to ensure work is not overloading its employees. Study leave for professional development.

      Cons

Low pay compared to industry Low pay increases per year (at most, 3.5%) Little to no support in professional development, other than paid study leave. No financial support, and no incentive to increase pay after receiving licence as BA/PM. Company culture problematic when it comes to BA/PM specifically - people are so overwhelmed by BAU (despite the company focusing on "sustainable pace"), that they never provide you with the necessary deliverables for your project; expect SMEs and POs to have no accountability in the project team. Expect you to do all the work as PM. Managers are not innovative, so process improvements get a lot of pushback unnecessarily. Managers are also incompetent in some teams.

      Australia's Biggest Tech Company

Jul 8, 2021 - Client Partner in Melbourne

      Pros

      - Compensation and Benefits are great. They may not look as good as other tech companies, but you will earn way your OTE every year. - No micromanagement, no big sale leader egos to deal with - Everyone wants to collaborate across the company - Telstra brand name opens alot of doors and meetings with CIO, CEO - Telstra really open to innovation and creativity with customers - Amazing Maternity Paternity Leave 16 weeks - You are set up to succeed - Diversity and inclusion a top priority - Can work overseas in Asia, USA, Europe with Telstra - Alot of focus on learning, career planning - Freedom to work anywhere, alot of work life balance, are not expected to work insane hours but rather encouraged to spend time with your family - Customers are amazing to deal with and so much opportunity to sell any product or service including tech products like AWS, Microsoft - Great sales leaders, really supportive, understanding, genuinely care, door always open, no real politics like other companies - Great products - Icon Australian brand, biggest Australian Owned Tech Company I have had offers to move to big global tech companies, but reading the reviews I choose to stay at Telstra for the reasons listed above.

      Cons

      - historically there has been alot of operational issues and challenges but year on year there has been a big focus to change this with digital products and tools and it is starting to change for the better - a restructure every year, hopefully we will see the end of these after the 9000 job loss program has finished - sometimes there is a lazy element within Telstra which makes things hard to achieve, but alot of the long term people have left, so this is starting to change - new Agile at Scale is a challenge but we are optimistic of the future
