Lead DevOps / Principal Environments Engineer | Permanent | Senior Leadership Role | Melbourne

Are you a seasoned DevOps or Environment Engineering leader ready to shape the future of environment management for a large-scale, cloud-focused Global Healthcare leader? We’re looking for a Principal Environments Engineer to spearhead our Environment-as-a-Service (EaaS) capability — driving automation, reliability, and next-generation environment strategy across development, testing, and production.

This is a key leadership position that blends technical depth with strategic influence. You’ll be the expert and thought leader behind how environments are designed, delivered, optimised, and consumed, ensuring teams can deploy faster, build with confidence, and operate securely at scale.

What You’ll Do Build Environments as a Service (EaaS)

• Deliver and uplift high-quality, scalable environments for dev, test, and production.
• Drive end-to-end automation, including self-service provisioning and ephemeral on-demand environments.
• Lead environment reliability, availability, and incident management.
• Optimise costs through automation, virtualisation, scheduling, and scalable cloud usage.

Enhance Visibility & Observability

• Own the environment services catalogue, inventory, dependency maps, and health dashboards.
• Provide real-time insight into environment performance, uptime, and readiness.

Performance, Reliability & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor, analyse, and optimise environment performance to enable fast, reliable deployments.
• Troubleshoot complex performance and scalability challenges.
• Implement root-cause analysis and prevention strategies.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner closely with Dev, Test, Product, Operations, Security, and Architecture teams.
• Act as a trusted advisor and environment SME across multiple technology groups.
• Ensure environment readiness and seamless delivery for projects and BAU.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Communicate environment health, metrics, usage, and risks to leadership and teams.
• Build strong relationships with delivery partners and technology vendors.
• Provide regular reporting on service levels, performance, and improvements.

What You Bring

• 8–10+ years in Azure cloud, DevOps, environment engineering, or related roles.
• Strong background in application environments, complex systems, and cloud architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Azure, CI/CD (Azure DevOps preferred), automation, scripting, and Microsoft tech stack.
• Exposure to containers (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS).
• Strong release management capability.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Proven experience working in Agile environments and championing DevOps practices.
• Ability to influence, lead, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• A continuous improvement mindset with a drive to modernise tools, processes, and ways of working.
