About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the core server-side systems that power our fintech platform. You will work on high-performance, secure, and scalable systems supporting investment, trading, and financial services at scale.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and contributing to system architecture, performance, and engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Architecture
• Design scalable backend systems and microservices
• Build architecture for high-traffic fintech applications
• Define data models and choose appropriate SQL/NoSQL databases
• Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance

Backend Development

• Develop and maintain RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
• Build backend services using Python, Java, Node.js, Go, or similar
• Integrate third-party services (payments, identity verification, trading systems)
• Debug and resolve complex production issues

Cloud & DevOps

• Deploy and manage applications on AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Work with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Monitor system performance, uptime, and reliability
• Improve scalability and reduce system downtime

Security & Performance

• Implement authentication and authorization (OAuth, JWT)
• Ensure secure handling of financial and personal data
• Support high-volume transaction processing systems
• Optimise performance for speed, scale, and cost efficiency

Leadership & Collaboration

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers
• Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering standards
• Collaborate with product, design, and data teams
• Contribute to technical strategy and architecture decisions

Requirements

• 5–10+ years of backend or software engineering experience
• Strong knowledge of system design and distributed systems
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Node.js, Go, etc.)
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / GCP / Azure)
• Strong SQL and database design skills
• Experience with APIs, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills at scale
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience in fintech, SaaS, or large-scale systems highly valued
• Leadership or mentoring experience preferred
