Your key responsibilities

Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Use knowledge, skills and experience to provide professional analytical services in relation to forensic DNA analysis commensurate with level of analytical experience.
Undertake forensic DNA testing and related duties using well established accredited protocols, standards and instrumentation within a multi-speciality team in line with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
Actively participate in the activities of the multi-speciality team, including participating in the introduction of new technologies or processes in the work area.
Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the Forensic DNA Analysis team and with clients and stakeholders, both internal and external to the lab.
Provide test results and advice on matters pertaining to complex technical matters for less senior staff members, clients and key stakeholders.
Participate in the process of quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification that enhance the delivery of Forensic DNA Analysis services provided to clients and key stakeholders.
Contribute to a positive organisational culture and creation of a safe and innovative environment for staff through team meetings, participation in training and development, performance appraisals and other measures.
Ensure work is compliant with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards to meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements to provide quality scientific practice.
Collaborate with team members to contribute to the operations of the Forensic Biology Unit to achieve its service delivery goals and to ensure the provision of quality scientific services to clients and stakeholders.
Apply scientific knowledge within the discipline of forensic biology to solve complex scientific problems.
Other duties as determined by the Team Leader, Deputy Manager and Manager, Biology.

Technical skills, abilities and cultural capability

Demonstrated experience working as part of a team in a scientific environment and contribution to a positive working environment.
Ability to manage allocated forensic biology casework, including:

detection, identification and analysis of materials encountered in casework
the interpretation of analytical results, including statistical interpretations where relevant
Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, and verbal and written ability to impart scientific knowledge to diverse groups.
Ability to monitor client and stakeholder satisfaction, and constructively address client/stakeholder issues to ensure positive outcomes.
Ability, or capacity to rapidly acquire ability, to follow, implement and review policies and procedures relating to a forensic biology laboratory.
Proven experience in complying with the legislation, regulations and standards that apply to a laboratory organisation.
Proven ability to implement contemporary and innovative scientific processes, procedures and concepts.
Compliance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures.
Successful applicants will be required to provide consent and a DNA sample upon commencement which will be retained for reference and comparison purposes.
