## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Agricultural Engineer to join our team and contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of engineering solutions across agricultural operations. This role is suited to a technically proficient professional with a strong background in agricultural systems, machinery, and land development who can apply sound engineering principles to improve productivity and sustainability. The successful candidate will work across a variety of projects, collaborating with clients, specialists, and construction teams to deliver outcomes that meet both operational and regulatory requirements.
## Key Responsibilities
- Assess and analyse the operating requirements of agricultural machinery, structures, and equipment to inform engineering decisions and identify opportunities for improvement
- Conduct research and development activities to evaluate new technologies, materials, and methods applicable to agricultural systems and infrastructure
- Design agricultural machinery, structures, and equipment, including the preparation of detailed working drawings, technical specifications, and material and construction guidelines
- Provide expert engineering advice to employers, clients, and associates on a broad range of agricultural engineering matters, including land use, infrastructure planning, and equipment selection
- Collaborate with agronomists, environmental engineers, surveyors, and other specialists to deliver integrated solutions for complex agricultural projects
- Supervise the construction, manufacture, and installation of agricultural structures and equipment, ensuring work is carried out in accordance with approved specifications and safety standards
- Test and inspect completed engineering works to verify compliance with design specifications, performance benchmarks, and relevant Australian standards
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, and project records to support quality assurance, compliance, and client reporting requirements
- Identify and implement improvements to irrigation systems, drainage infrastructure, land forming, and soil conservation measures
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure delivery milestones are met efficiently and effectively
- Contribute to workplace health and safety practices by identifying engineering-related risks and recommending appropriate mitigation measures
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Agricultural Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia or equivalent professional engineering body
- Demonstrated experience in agricultural engineering, farm infrastructure development, or a closely related field
- Proficiency in engineering design software and CAD tools for the preparation of technical drawings and specifications
- Sound knowledge of Australian agricultural systems, rural infrastructure standards, and relevant legislation and codes of practice
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex engineering challenges and develop practical solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to rural and remote sites as required
## Preferred Qualifications
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia
- Postgraduate qualifications in agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, or project management
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies, including GPS-guided machinery, remote sensing, and data management platforms
- Familiarity with sustainable land management practices, carbon farming frameworks, or environmental impact assessment processes
- Prior experience in a consultancy or advisory capacity, working directly with farming enterprises or agribusiness clients
- Knowledge of irrigation design and water resource management in an Australian context
