SM Strategic PT Network Planning

In this role:

As the Senior Manager, Strategic Public Transport Network Planning, you will lead the development and design of future public transport networks across NSW to meet changing demand and support government priorities.

You will define network outcomes, identify priority corridors and shape the role of different public transport modes within an integrated transport system, aligned with the Connecting NSW strategy.

You will lead analysis and research on complex network planning issues and provide evidence-based, strategic advice to support prioritisation and pre-investment decision-making.

Working across Transport and with key partners, you will ensure public transport planning supports end-to-end journeys, integrates with rai, active transport and other modes, and delivers measurable improvements in access to jobs, services and places.

In this role you will oversee a number of initiatives, with your primary accountabilities as:

• Lead the design of future public transport network changes across NSW
• Identify future network structures, priority corridors and the role of different modes (including bus, BRT, light rail and emerging services) within the broader transport network
• Define network outcomes, service level frameworks and performance targets to guide integrated planning
• Ensure public transport network planning aligns with Connecting NSW and other strategic transport directions, translating these into clear network priorities and initiatives.
• Provide strategic, evidence-based advice to support prioritisation, business case development and pre-investment decisions
• Work collaboratively with rail planning, infrastructure and integration teams to ensure alignment and effective network integration across all modes
• Engage with stakeholders across government, including councils, health and education agencies, to ensure transport planning supports land use and community outcomes
• Drive continuous improvement in planning approaches, embedding data-led, customer-focused and outcomes-based decision making
• Ensure strategic network directions are clearly translated and embedded into integrated service plans and delivery pathways

About you:

• You bring an extensive track record in strategic public transport planning and leading complex planning programs in high-profile environments
• You have strong experience shaping network strategies and translating them into prioritised initiatives and investment-ready advice
• You understand how different transport modes interact and how to design an integrated, multimodal network
• You bring significant experience working across government and large organisations to influence, align stakeholders and deliver coordinated outcomes
• You bring a strong customer focus and understand how network planning improves access, equity and connectivity
• You are a collaborative and influential leader, able to bring together diverse teams and perspectives
• You are comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, and able to turn analysis into clear, actionable recommendations
• You are recognised for your credibility, judgement and ability to support sound decision-making under pressure
