The Data Analyst/Statistician will provide statistical and analytic support for Monash Health HREC ethics applications, statistical consultations for Monash Health staff and students, and project coordination and management for data and analytics components of research projects at MCHRI. In consultation with Professor Helena Teede and A/Prof Joanne Enticott, the Data Analyst/Statistician will undertake research and analytic work needed to support the Monash Centre for Health Research & Implementation and the biostatistical consulting service for Monash Health staff and students.
About Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI), Monash University and Monash Health
MCHRI sits under the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. Established in 2005, MCHRI has grown from 3 to 180 staff and students. MCHRI is a collaborative partnership between Monash University and Monash Health, a women's health and implementation Centre. MCHRI utilises public health research as well as the translation and implementation of clinical, health services and public health knowledge, underpinned by cross-sector end-user engagement, to deliver health impact. MCHRI is the base for the maternity Learning Health System (LHS), embedding research and maternal healthcare provision to drive sustainable improvement in maternity care and health outcomes for women and newborns.

About the Role
Located at Monash Health within the Monash Health Translation Precinct, MCHRI is expanding its biostatistical consultancy and research analytics capability. The Data Analyst/Statistician will provide research statistical support to the Monash Health HREC, provide statistical consultations for Monash Health staff and students, and support data/analytics components of research projects. The existing highly skilled biostatistical consultancy team provides a supportive environment and structured mentorship for new members to upskill. Primary responsibilities include:
Provide research statistical support to the Monash Health HREC, including statistical review and reporting for ethics applications.
Provide statistical consultations for Monash Health staff and students.
Coordinate and manage data and analytics components of MCHRI research projects.
Assist with evaluation methodologies, data cleaning, data analysis, interpretation and preparation of results and reports.
Assist in preparing documentation including ethics and governance submissions, grant applications, research reports, conference abstracts and manuscripts.
Maintain and use information systems, databases, websites and record-keeping systems that support MCHRI research projects and programs.
Keep abreast of developments in biostatistics, data science, risk prediction and health research methods through literature, meetings and seminars.
Comply with Monash Health and Monash University policies, procedures and protocols relevant to undertaking research.
About You
We are seeking a highly motivated quantitative researcher with strong statistical, analytic and problem-solving skills. You will be able to communicate statistical methods and results clearly to multidisciplinary research and clinical teams, manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure. Experience in health, healthcare, women's health, maternity, emergency health data, clinical datasets, risk prediction or implementation-ready analytics would be advantageous.
Machine learning skills are desirable but not compulsory. The role is suitable for a statistician, data analyst, epidemiologist, research assistant or data scientist with experience in health, clinical, public health or research settings.
What you need:
Tertiary qualification in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, public health, biomedical science, health sciences, information technology or a related discipline.
Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
Quantitative research experience, including data cleaning, data management, statistical analysis and reporting.
Knowledge of statistical analysis software such as Stata, R and/or Python; experience with reproducible workflows and script-based analysis is desirable.
Experience in statistical consultancy, teaching, health research or clinical research support would be advantageous.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, statisticians, data scientists, project managers and data custodians.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear reports, tables, figures and documentation.
Understanding of confidentiality, privacy, human research ethics, information security and responsible research data management.
Experience with risk prediction, electronic medical record data, pathology data, biobank data, biomarker research, machine learning or women's health research is highly desirable.
